At about 5am on News Years day 2006 Craig decided that he couldn’t sleep and wanted to hold a meeting. So he calls Simon (remember this is 5am new years morning) and says “Hay, wana come to The Pancake Parlor for breakfast and a meeting?” a drowsy Simon somehow agrees and Craig manages to have the 3 of us sitting in PP by 6am eating breakfast and coming up with new web application software: Playful-bent is born.
Further brainstorming ensued with a 7.30am swim in the river at Pound Bend and eventually we all came home and begin to nut out some actual online stuff.
Several months, a holiday, sale of a house and a move into our in-laws later, we return to play some more. Taking our lead from 37Signals, today Craig and I began to re-plan Playful-Bent from the drawing pad up. It’s a strange way of working for us, normally we really want to get in there with some hard core coding and actually see some online working stuff with pretty photoshop mockups, but at the end of a busy day we have a pile of concept art, and a really spunky looking frontpage mockup in photoshop, and we’re happy
Why have we created it? Sexy social networking mainly. We all like to be titillated, flirted with, teased and aroused to some degree and Playful-bent.com allows us to do all these things. The level of interaction with other users is completely in your hands and you can share as little or as much about yourself as you want.
There is a lot of potential for this type of site (in our humble opinions) and we are really excited about it. The most frustrating thing is making sure each feature is use perfict before we move on to new features (which is very tantalising). Our ideas and passion for this are over shadowed by the actual hours in the day we have to spend on the site (maybe oneday it will actually be self suporting and we can work on it exclusively full-time, but right now its free).
